Collection Contest

Send in your supply of Box Tops, Campbell Soup labels, Land O' Lakes milk lids and pop tabs before the end of September.

Fit For Life

Each month your child(ren) will be bringing home a calendar for PE. Please record any activity or sports on the form.  At the end of the month, please total up the checks and sign at the bottom.  The kids give them to me and I will turn them into Mrs. Kroman.  September's log is required to come back to school, and then the program is voluntary each following month.

Afternoon in the Park

We spent the afternoon at Highland Park.  It was warm, but we had a nice time.

Spelling City

Monday is the start of spelling.  We will once again be using the Spelling City website.  The students will receive a list on Monday, practice the list during the week, and then take the test on Friday.  The test is taken on the website so you might want to practice this at home.  The website is www.spellingcity.com (click on the link).
You will need to search for a list by using my name: Kim Buechler.  Then choose your child's list. I will not be sending home the words (to save paper). The students names and their list name will be posted here next week.

Class DoJo

We will be starting our classroom behavior system on Monday.  Class DoJo is a website which allows me to monitor student behaviors by adding positive or negative points on an individual child basis.  The kids work during the day to earn 10 points which allows them to put their name in a drawing for a special reward.

Negative points are also earned for misbehaviors.  If three negative points are earned it results in missed recess.  If four negative points are earned it results in a call home.  Five points is an office referral.

You will receive a weekly email showing your child's accumulated points. You can also check on your students progress during the week with your parent code (coming home next week).

Snack

We have a snack every day at 10:00.  I don't provide snack, so you can send a snack for your child if you wish. Please send the snack in individual baggies or portion sizes.

Water Bottles

It is going to be HOT next week and so please send a water bottle with your student.  You need to have a straw or flip-top bottle, not a screw top (see below)

Matter

Next week we are learning about the different types of matter.  We will be exploring changes in matter and looking at mixtures.

On Friday, I would like to have your students bring in a mixture for their snack.  It could be Chex Mix, different cereals, different types of crackers, trail mix and so on. You will only needs to send enough for your child. We will share what makes our snake a mixture (having different parts which can be separated).  If this is a financial burden, please send me an email and I will provide a mixture snack.

Welcome Back!

I can't believe this is our third and final year together as a learning community.  I am thrilled to begin another year with your child(ren) and am very excited to see what growth we can experience.

My opening theme is
"Forest of Learners
with the room is decorated with forest creatures. This was inspired by my favorite animal, the moose.  Moose are an awkward and strange looking animal, but are strong and powerful. I feel that we all have a bit of moose within us. We are a bit awkward when learning something new and strange, but with time we can become strong and confident in our learning. I will let the moose be our mascot as we enter this new school year.
