I sent home a different form of midterms tonight with your child. (The letter was placed in a white envelope if you want to check your child's backpack) Please let me know what you think of this format. I thought it was a nice representation of your child's progress, but I would like to know your thoughts.

Sound Experiment
The kids conducted a sound experiment today. They put a baggie filled with either a solid, liquid or gas to their ear. Then their partner tapped the baggie with a pencil. They recorded the volume of the tapping.
After some reading and investigating, they found out that sound travels quicker through solid than through liquid or gas.

Spelling City
Students can practice their spelling words using the website spellingcity.com.
To find your child's spelling words:
1. click the "Find A List" tab,
2. enter my name (kim buechler),
3. click my name,
4. click on either Group 1, 2, or 3.
Your child knows which group they are in, if not let me know.
There are games, puzzles, and a practice test. All students will take the test on Friday morning using Spelling City, so it might be a good idea to practice using the computer for typing ease.

The Week in Review
Here is what we worked on this week:
Reading: finding the main idea of a story and explaining your reasoning for feeling that way.
Math: adding 2 and 3 digit numbers with regrouping (carrying). We have learned both a traditional and nontraditional method for regrouping when adding large numbers. If you would like to work with your student(s), you can use the traditional (carrying) strategy if you would like. I will post the directions for the place value addition strategy later so you will know how to add this "new" way.
Cursive: we learned the i, t, and u this week. I will be sending home practice sheets soon.
Science: finished up our look at the stages of Matter.
